As campaigns for the National and State Assembly re-run election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP gets underway in Rivers State, the State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has called on Rivers people to come out enmasse and vote for PDP candidates.
Dr. Banigo who made the call in a statement at Government House, Port Harcourt, explained that the only way for them to be effectively represented at both the National and State Assembly is for them to come out in their numbers and cast their votes for the PDP government led by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike whose performance has endeared the administration to the people.
Dr. Banigo also called on the people of Rivers West Senatorial District to see the re-run election as a period to re-enact their seal as they did in the March 19, 2016 re-run election which was cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for no justifiable reason.
She advised Rivers people and non-indigenes alike to vote wisely and refuse to be intimidated by desperate politicians and other enemies of the State who are bent on instigating violence during the re-run election, stressing that “God would not allow them to succeed as God’s hand is on Rivers State.”
The Deputy Governor urged members of the opposition to come out to the field and test their popularity during the re-run election rather than resorting to politics of hate, bitterness, blackmail and other unwholesome activities capable of truncating the political process.
She renewed her call on INEC to do the needful and ensure that it remains neutral in the conduct of the re-run election while other stakeholders such as Politicians, Political Parties, Security Agencies and Party faithful should confine themselves to their responsibilities and avoid being used to rig or thugs to cause mayhem before, during and after the poll in order to continue to create the erroneous impression that Rivers State is not safe.
The Deputy Governor said, it is only the PDP government that has the Vision to transform Rivers State into an economically and infrastructurally enviable status, stressing that the continuous support of the people is what is needed to achieve set goals.
