The decision of the Court of Appeal to strike out paragraphs in the petition of the Rivers State APC Governorship Candidate, wherein he made outlandish allegations against named and unnamed security agents and alleged political thugs is a welcome development and a confirmation that the April 11 governorship election was credible, Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant ( Media ) to the Rivers State Governor has said.
In a statement on Saturday, Simeon Nwakaudu noted that the Appeal Court decision is critical to the appeal process as the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal did not take this development into consideration while delivering its judgment.
According to him, the process of Appeal would consider the fact that the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had earlier thrown out these paragraphs, but inexplicably added same in its final judgment.
The Rivers State Governor's Aide pointed out that the governorship election was a true reflection of the people of the state who are at meeting with Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt reaffirmed that they voted for Governor Wike because he represents the true Rivers spirit and the commitment of the people to determine their own development.
"The Rivers State APC and their governorship candidate are still in panic mood, hence they are concocting false stories and already engaging in illegal political meetings with their few supporters with the intention of misleading the public.
"The recent decision of the Court of Appeal implies that all statements credited to the said security agents will be expunged from the records of the tribunal and will no longer form part of the appeal process. That is the reason for the fear being expressed at all levels of the Rivers State APC. The party is aware that the hearsay testimonies of these security agents and allegations against alleged political thugs are no longer tenable", he said.
The Court of Appeal has strengthened the case of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as the second leg Rivers State APC petition has been pulled out, pointing out that the other pillar of their case, the card reader accreditation is no longer tenable following decisions by Superior Courts on the matter.
