The Rivers State Government has rejected and dismissed the Nigeria Police report on the convoy attack on the Governor of Rivers State by the Minister of Transport, saying the biased report is a sad development for the police force that has chosen to disgrace itself.
Two days ago, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police in a statement said the convoy incident was a minor accident and that investigations did not show how the outrider and his bike were knocked down, even though the man is alive and in his custody. He also said that the Governor was 400 meters away from crime scene but admitted that the Governor’s CSO queried a lot of SARS officers who were around the scene. This is turning logic upside down.
In his reaction, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications Barr Emma Okah, said the police did not investigate the matter but acted a script written for it by the Commander of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Mr Akin Fakorede, who is a bosom friend and hatchet man of the Minister of Transport and the APC.
From the totality of the statement of the Police in Rivers State, it is very obvious that plans and strategies have reached advanced stages to eliminate the Governor of Rivers State His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON and the incident of last Saturday is a manifestation of the plans of the police.
According to Barr Okah, it is wicked and wrong for the police to treat a state governor like a subordinate of a minister, more so when the police has been receiving tremendous logistics and financial support from the Rivers State Government. Not to recognize the priority of the Governor’s convoy over any other convoy in the state except those allowed by law is a national embarrassment. Could this be the reason why the Nigerian police was recently voted as the worst in the whole world?
“It is deliberate falsehood for the police to say that at the time the outrider got to Nkpogu Junction and intercepted the Minister’s SUV Black Lexus 750 Jeep, the convoy of the governor was 400 meters away. It is even more satanic for the same police to say that they did not know how the outrider fell from his Bike when everybody including the Minister of Transport said that he was the one who intentionally knocked down the bike and the rider” he said.
The Governor’s convoy was a short one on that Sunday and the outrider who is the first part of the convoy was certainly not up to 60 meters away from the Governor. If the police was in doubt as to who knocked down the outrider, why did they not ask the rider who they have since detained and are planning to dismiss from service for doing his job?
“It further mangles logic that the police is confused as to who has the No. 1 convoy right in the State. Is the office of minister above that of the Governor of a state in Nigeria? It is wrong for the Police to accord priority to the convoy of a Minister over and above that of the State Governor, confirming accusations that the police has low regard for the government and people of Rivers State” the statement added, noting that this convoy attack case is a litmus test for the image of the police which has been badly battered
“When a police high command indulges in deliberate falsehood and closes its eyes to the truth, the people cannot trust it and the result is an express invitation to anarchy as the police is doing in Rivers State” the statement added, asserting that the police is being clever by half as the attack on the Governor’s convoy by the Minister of Transport is not a minor accident, but a deliberate disregard for the law and office of the governor of Rivers State and if you like, it is a rehearsal of the plot to eliminate the Governor in connivance with the police.
“Even if it was an accident, there should a cause and an effect. There should be a party who is at fault. Even a traffic warden who raises his hand controls a traffic and he is obeyed by all. Is the Police saying that it is right for the Minister of Transport to knock down a policeman who stopped him? Why is the Police avoiding a preliminary finding of guilt against the Minister of Transport?
The Claim by the police that it will discipline officers found blameworthy in the ugly incident is the usual pattern and trick to shield SARS officers in the Minister’s bloated convoy and dismiss police officers in the convoy of the Governor and frighten those who may want to defend the governor in case of future attack. This has repeatedly happened in the past.
“While we agree that disciplinary action should be for erring officers, can the Commissioner of Police tell Nigerians why he had refused to explain the presence of about 50 men of the SARS and their commander at the crime scene? Is the Minister of Transport the owner of SARS? Why has the Commissioner of Police continued to look the other way despite repeated complaints against a younger officer Mr Akin Fakorede and the SARS he commands? If anybody is to face disciplinary action, it is the Commander and men of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) who gave the Minister the courage to violate the convoy of the Governor and knock down his outrider” he said.
It is sad that in our Nigeria, a serving Minister will deliberately attack a Governor’s convoy, knock down an outrider who had merely asked him to stop for the convoy of the Governor to pass and the police sees nothing wrong, the statement added, noting that to allow the SARS officers begin to try and pass judgment on the police officers that they assailed in the convoy attack as is being done now, before the Commissioner of Police, is truly an all time low.
Hon Commissioner for Information and Communications
Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor, in a chat with members of the Caywood Brown Foundation noted that reports have shown that the incidence of the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is 5 times higher in girls than boys in the State. As a woman, mother and medical doctor, she feels pained that this epidemic is now on the increase. Though there still is no cure, there have been massive advancements and strides in the care of HIV/AIDS and she feels committed to create the needed awareness to reduce the number of women and girls getting infected with the virus.
She commended the CaywoodBrown Foundation, for organizing free seminars and counselling for women in Rivers State on HIV/AIDS prevention and control. Seeing that, women are biologically responsible for propagation of humanity. More women living with the virus translates to a high risk of spread, for instance, through mother-to-child transmission.
Medical professionals recommend protected sex and staying faithful to one partner, but the most efficient way to combat this virus is abstinence. Young, unmarried people need to embrace the purity of chastity, as it is our best chance to successfully eradicate the virus. Attempts at having protected or safe sex may fail, but abstinence is the best option to totally prevent infections.
She commended His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for his commitment in equipping our medical facilities in the State. The Nyesom Wike-led Government has provided available, affordable and accessible primary healthcare across the State, which provides services to improve the health quality of the people and encourages Rivers people, especially the youths, to take advantage of these provisions for their health.
She encouraged every young person who is sexually active to check their HIV status at one of the Primary Health Care Center closest to them so that you are aware of your status and start treatment where necessary Also, for people who are living with the virus, there are programs in place to help you lead a normal life. Women who are infected can have babies not infected by the virus because of the PMTCT (Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission) program now available in all our health facilities since last year. The Deputy Governor committed to partnering with Caywood Brown Foundation and other NGOs working with youths in HIV prevention to make young women realize and live a future brighter than they imagined.

The Rivers State Governor, Barr. Ezenwo Nywsom Wike says the present Administration’s Commitments to the separation of powers is not negotiable.
The Governor stated this during the special session to commemorate the Rivers State Golden Jubilee at the State Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt.
Represented by his Deputy Dr. Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo Governor Wike said the Golden Jubilee is all about celebration of the liberty of our State from oppression and domination by the forces of darkness.
The State Chief Executive said a few years ago the previous administration that was democratically elected chose to oppress the Rivers People by locking up the hallowed chambers which according to him negates the principles of separation of powers.
He said during the 2015 electioneering campaigns he promised that never again will the rights of the Rivers People be trampled upon and abused with impunity, stressing that the hallowed chambers were reopened immediately he took over office as Governor.
Governor Wike who expressed his commitments in ensuring that the legislative arm of government functions effectively to represent our people, further said his desire to give the Rivers People dividends of democracy is total.
He informed the Assembly that for the first time in the history of the State 70% of the budget has been appropriated to Capital Projects while 30% is for recurrent expenditure.
The Governor however noted that in spite of these, salaries and emoluments for public servants have been paid up to date and the day to day running of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government are in full swing.
Earlier the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt, Hon, Ikunyi-Owaji Ibani, said the Legislative Arm of Government is key to good governance, stressing that the 8th Assembly is committed to partnering with the Executive to deliver democratic dividends to the people.
Also speaking the Majority Leader of the House Hon. Martin Amaewhule noted that since the inception of the 8th Assembly a total of 17 laws and 66 resolutions have been passed on the floor of the Assembly.

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio has declared that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has executed more projects in the last two years than the APC-led Federal Government.
Addressing journalists after accompanying Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on an extensive projects inspection on Monday, Senator Akpabio said that Governor Wike's excellent performance stems from his love for Rivers people.
The Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State noted: "Governor Wike has done more work and projects in the last two years than the Federal Government. That is my considered opinion.
"Performance is not necessarily an issue of the availability of resources. If your state gets N5billion, do projects of that amount. If you get N1billion, do projects commensurate with that figure. For Governor Wike, he has judiciously applied the scarce resources available to the state to develop needed infrastructure.
"The resources available to Rivers State is nothing compared to that of the Federal Government. Rivers State Government gets far less than a quarter than one percent of what accrues to the Federal Government, but we can see the tremendous quality of transformation taking place in the state".
The Former Governor added: "It is not so much money that makes performance. It is love for your people. When you are elected, if you love your people you will perform, no matter the little money that you have.
"What I am seeing here in Rivers State is not like a recession economy because the Governor of Rivers State loves his people. Let me use this opportunity to congratulate the workers at the various sites because they are acquiring a lot of skills working at the sites.
"The kind of projects that Governor Wike is doing in Rivers State will attract the world to the state. Today, there is a song, that the handwork of Wike is beautiful."
Senator Akpabio advised Governor Wike never to be distracted by political detractors who engage in political blackmail. He said no matter the attempt at distraction, Governor Wike should continue his transformation of the state.
He said: "Do not be distracted by unnecessary blackmail against your person by political detractors. I want to urge all governors who have the opportunity to lead their states to visit Rivers State.
"I want to say this with all amount of pride that Governor Wike is working. We pray God to continue to bless, protect and keep him to work for the state. Governor Wike loves his people, he loves Rivers State and that is why he is doing this. It is not everyone that will transform Rivers State in such a short time.
"Under two years, the results are everywhere. The roads we think that will not be done, have been done. The roads are now wonderful, most of them dualised,
"When it comes to the time of election and the people risk their lives for Governor Wike. People will say maybe he sponsored thugs or used money. It is Governor Wike’s work that will determine the electoral future."
He commended Governor Wike for restoring the pride of Rivers State as the capital of the Niger Delta.
Governor Wike during the inspection tour, explained the importance of the Rivers State Ecumenical Centre, the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park and Landscaping Architecture at Airforce overheard bridge, Port Harcourt.
He said that his administration will continue to sustain the execution of projects across the state, despite the economic recession.

GOVERNOR WIKE SAYS SUSTAINED INJUSTICE BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AFFECTING NIGERIA UNITY
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that Nigeria will only experience peace and development when the several lies affecting her functionality are dismantled.
He also called for immediate reforms where states are treated as federating units and not departments of the Federal Government.
In his acceptance speech after receiving the award as the Sun Governor of the Year, 2016 in Lagos on Saturday night , Governor Wike said that all efforts must be targeted at inclusive governance, which will cater for all sections of the country.
He said: "There are too many lies in the Nigeria’s structural arrangement we must dismantle, including the over-concentration of absolute power and resources at the centre, in order to guarantee sustainable peace, good governance and development.
"For heaven’s sake, we must come to terms with the fact that States are federating units, not departments of the Federal Government. State Governors are elected by their people, and therefore superior in every respect to appointed officers of the federal government.
"It is a constitutional fiction to refer to Governors as Chief Security Officers. But, even at that, nobody can claim to be more concerned about insecurity in our States than the Governors."
He said despite the challenges posed by the imbalances, he has worked deliberately to support security agencies and improve security in Rivers State.
The governor said: "In Rivers State, our administration treats security as number one priority. We have invested millions of naira to provide support for the security agencies, including patrol vehicles, communication and surveillance equipment, gunboats and other logistics.
"Even as I speak, we have procured six armoured personnel carriers to be delivered to the police force. You must also be aware of the two armoured helicopters partly funded by the previous administration, which we brought into the country and voluntarily offered to the Nigerian Air force to use in providing aerial security surveillance for the State.
"Unfortunately, our commitments and support for the security agencies, especially the Police and the DSS appear fruitless given the prevailing disenchantments over their poor operations and relationship with the government and our people.
"Worse still, the politicization of security agencies and services in Rivers State, which started with the frequent and impulsive replacement of Police and DSS bosses, is becoming entrenched and even taken to irrational levels."
On his award, Governor Wike explained that he will remain committed to the delivery of quality projects and programmes across the state for the good of the people.
He noted that the successes recorded in road infrastructure, health infrastructure, security of lives and , education, empowerment, youth development, urban renewal and agriculture.
He said: "As a government, we refused the temptation to politicise project implementation. It is for this reason that we embarked on the ambitious completion of the projects abandoned by the previous administration provided they have direct bearing on the lives of our people.
"And because we recognized the direct relationship between the quality of infrastructure and the State’s growth potential, we completely insulated road construction from political considerations and ensured that all such contracts are given only to tested and reputable contractors.
" This policy saw the quick return of construction giants like Julius Berger, CCECC, Setraco, Dantata & Sawoe, Reynolds Construction Company, and others.
"It is also instructive to note that our infrastructure revolution is not limited to roads. We appreciate the essence of achieving holistic development of the State, which can be impeded without the simultaneous development of social infrastructure.
"Accordingly, we also rebuilding the schools to improve the quality of education and rehabilitating and re-equipping the general hospitals to enhance healthcare delivery. As I speak, 13 general hospitals are undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation while the Vice President on his recent visit flagged off the construction of senior doctors’ quarters at the State-owned Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital."
Governor Wike added: "Also, we are constructing a world-class pleasure park to enhance tourism development, reconstructing the Bille/Bonny Jetty, completed and commissioned the Okrika Jetty to improve water transportation and providing potable water for some of our communities. In appreciation to God, we are building the Port Harcourt Ecumenical Centre to uplift the spiritual lives of our people.
"Rivers State is now a huge construction site and this is deliberate. In 2016, we spent not less than 60 per cent of our budget on capital projects. In 2017, we have increased it to 70 per cent to enable us deliver on our unmet needs for more social and economic infrastructure."
While thanking the Sun Newspapers for the award, he assured that he will continue to perform in such a way that he will continue to win the award.
The Sun Governor of the Year Award was presented to Governor Wike by the Former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaokwu who lauded the governor for his outstanding performance.
The award ceremony was attended by political and business leaders across the country.
